WLF Enduro | Woman of the Wolfpack

The Crew at WLF Enduro have become part of the Babes in the Dirt family. Their motto is "Further Together" and it could not be more perfect! Many fun trails and campfire hangs have allowed us to get to know what the WLF pack is all about. We would like to introduce you to some crucial members of the pack! Trieste and Brooke came out to Babes in the Dirt 3 and took the New-To-Moto training course offered by our friends at Husqvarna Motorcycles. Read on to get to know a little more about the women of WLF and their experience at Babes in the Dirt!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am the wife of one of the WLF Enduro founders, Jacob Smith, who is an amazing human being and the love of my life and a mommy to two amazing girls, Davey and Dylan. I have been a project manager for an interior design firm for 15 years. I love camping in the mountains, at the beach, in the desert, and pretty much anywhere my family and friends are.

Tell us about your connection with the moto community.

My husband has been riding a dirt bike his entire life. His family has property in Johnson Valley where we spend many weekends with our friends and family on moto adventures. He has persuaded lots of friends to join him on the dirt bike and even myself briefly but, the soft sand and I didn’t get along and I wussed out and sold my bike. I would like to get another bike in the near future so I can ride with my girls who are beginning to ride a little bit with their dad’s influence. We are surrounded by the enduro community in our daily lives and we have met so many awesome new friends through WLF Enduro.

When did you first hear about Babes in the Dirt? I met Anya at a WLF Enduro event last year and from there became more familiar with Babes Ride Out and Babes in the Dirt. I was sort of pushed to go to Babes in the Dirt last year by my friend Trieste who is always down to give new things a try. I was a little nervous to get on a bike again but I heard there would be karaoke and beer so I gladly obliged.

Have you ever been on a dirt bike? Yes, I had a little Honda CRF 150 for a bit. I had fun on it but, never got comfortable so I sold it. I do regret it a little but, am hoping to give it another try.

Tell us about your experience at Babes in the Dirt? It was an awesome experience. I didn’t know what to expect being around that many women but, it was super empowering and fun. Seeing so many badass girls loading and unloading bikes and working on bikes was super cool. It’s something I had never really seen before. It was nice to meet a bunch of girls who were beginners on bikes like me, too. It made me feel a lot more comfortable giving the Husky’s a try. They were fun to ride and a lot easier that I remember my bike being. The party was fun, too!

What did you think of the training course you took on site?  I enjoyed it. I went on the easy course but, it was cool because there was soft sand and I felt like I kind of got the feeling of what I am supposed to do when there is soft sand. The instructor was very thorough so I felt like I had a good grasp on what I needed to do. I didn’t fall once! I was riding an 80 so all I had to do was put my feet down but, anyway… I didn’t fall.

How was it to be able to spend some time on a Husqvarna Motorcycle? Riding the Husky with the rekluse clutch was sweet. I am definitely a beginner on a bike and stalling is something I do my fair share of. I didn’t have to worry about it so much and could focus on other aspects of riding like speeding up in the sand. Those bikes were definitely way nicer that what I’ve been on in the past. I can see why my husband loves his Husqvarna!

What was your favorite part about the weekend? Everything was fun! I love camping and drinking beer and hanging out with my friends so it was right up my alley. Oh, and the karaoke show was to die for. I met a lot of cool babes who are super inspiring and I am excited to go back this year!

Are you looking forward to Babes in the Dirt 4? I’m looking forward to giving a dirt bike another try so I can get a little more confidence and maybe pull the trigger on my own again one of these days. I really love the dirt bike community and I’m thankful to have met so many awesome people through my husband’s passion for riding and I’m excited for more of my friends to go with me this year!

Tell us a little about yourself.

I am recently a new stay at home mommy to a 19 month old baby boy named Graceson. I was a corporate Ecommerce Merchandise Director for several Fashion retailers over the past 15 years but have found a new passion for being a mother. I still love to consult for Fashion brands as well as sell amazing skincare to friends and family. I have always loved being active but for some reason as life happens you sometimes forget about doing things for yourself so learning to ride is a new goal that will allow me some more time with my hubby and eventually my little dude who will be riding before I know it.

My husband and his best friends started an enduro riding community called WLFenduro  about 10 years ago and we have all been going camping for years together.

When did you first hear about Babes in the Dirt?

Last year was the first time I had heard about it through his relationship from WLF.

Have you ever been on a dirt bike?

Technically yes, but I am not sure it really counts . . . . I sat on an old Honda trail 90 out at the desert cabin and the clutch got stuck so I was blazing off into the desert sunset when right before I was going to have to bail off the clutch loosened up and I was able to slow down and turn the bike around!  hahahah it was a pretty sorry sight LOL

Tell us about your experience at Babes in the Dirt?

It was incredible! I was super nervous to go to this event because like I said I had never really ridden a bike before so I was intimidated by all the advanced riders I knew would be there but it was the most welcoming and encouraging group of women I had ever met. There was no judgement or condescending looks at all . . . in fact every girl there was so pumped that I was learning how to ride. I was a WLF wife and they wanted me to learn just as bad as my husband did.

What did you think of the training course you took on site?

It was perfect . . . enough info to learn and feel confident enough to go for a ride but not overwhelming or too long where you get tired of waiting to jump on the bike.

How was it to be able to spend some time on a Husqvarna Motorcycle?

So nice!!! Rekluse clutch is my new best friend . . .  no more panic moments where I don’t know if I am going to be able to stop or slow down my bike hahahah The Husqvarna girls were super rad and helpful and the bike was amazing and so fun to ride. I told Keith if I am going to ride that is the kind of bike I want hahahah #dreaming

What was your favorite part about the weekend?

I love that it’s all girls just having fun and supporting each other . . .  as women sometimes things can get so competitive and at this event its nothing but cheering each other on . . .  from rallying behind one another as your riding the course and saying “yeah girl you’re doing amazing!” to screaming for your friend while she is on the karaoke stage as if you’re at the best concert in your life. The vibe and energy at this event is unlike anything I have every experienced and I can’t wait to share it with more of my friends!

Are you looking forward to Babes in the Dirt 4? YES!!!!! I have even more girls coming with us this year then last year because I have been sharing how amazing of an experience I had. I can’t wait for all 10 of us to get out there and ride together for the first time! It’s going to be epic!
